-Kogi Poly lecturer suspended for imposing textbooks on students

On Thursday, September 9, Usman Salisu Ogbo, rector of Kogi state polytechnic disclosed that a lecturer of the institution has been penalized for mandating students to purchase textbooks before succeeding in the examination.

According to Dailypost, He disclosed this in a chat with Comrade Sunday Asefon, the President of the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), during his courtesy visit.

Usman stated that the defaultant lecturer, with name withheld, has been placed on suspension.

The rector revealed that wickedness is portrayed by some lecturers in the institution in cases where students fail to get their textbooks, he said, in some cases, these students are separated from their peers while in other cases, students who failed to get their textbooks are failed by their lecturers.

He condemned this action by some lecturers, denoting that getting a test book isn’t a justification for passing a course. He said he has already instructed lecturers with textbooks for sale to place them in the school bookshop, but some still default and impose them on students.

Read his statement below:

We had cases whereby some lecturers would insist that if students failed to buy their textbooks, they would fail their examination. We also have cases whereby those students that bought books and those that did not buy will be separated. This is pure wickedness.
